Artwork with water-repellent effect exhibited at kinare
Takram exhibited Furumai at KINARE - Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art in 2017.
Furumai was originally created and exhibited for Water Exhibition at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Tokyo from 2007 to 2008. When a bead of water is dropped onto a plate with the super water-repellent surface, it moves as if it has a will of its own.
As the museum was to accommodate many young audiences, we recreated Furumai from the durability and safety perspective while keeping the playful interactivity. We used a 3D printer to manufacture geometrically complex shapes with a durable material. Two new plates with parametric designs were newly created and were exhibited along with four places remodelled in 3D from the previous exhibition.
